Bio
Recruited from the Northern Knights, Chris Johnson began his career as a livewire forward for Fitzroy during the club's tumultuous final years. He quickly established himself as a fan favourite with his flair and goal sense, but his career trajectory altered significantly following the 1996 merger between Fitzroy and the Brisbane Bears. Johnson was one of just eight Fitzroy players selected to join the newly formed Brisbane Lions, relocating to Queensland where he would eventually become one of the club's most decorated servants.
While he arrived in Brisbane as a forward, Johnson transformed into one of the competition's premier small defenders under coach Leigh Matthews. Renowned for his aggressive tackling, blistering pace, and piercing left-foot kick, he became a linchpin of the Lions' legendary triple premiership dynasty between 2001 and 2003. His standing in the game was solidified by multiple All-Australian selections and his inclusion in the Indigenous Team of the Century. Johnson concluded his career as a co-captain of the Lions, retiring as the final link on the playing list to the old Fitzroy Football Club.
