Stats
Bio
Recruited from the Alphington Amateurs, Harry Mears was a diminutive rover and forward pocket who carved out a productive VFL career during the 1940s. Although he played over 60 games for Collingwood, Mears often found himself on the fringe of the starting lineup, frequently utilised as the 19th man during the 1945 season. In search of regular game time, he transferred to South Melbourne in 1946, where he made an immediate impact as a focal point in attack. Mears topped the Swans' goalkicking in his debut season at the Lake Oval and polled a team-high 11 Brownlow votes, proving his worth as a dangerous crumbing option. After three consistent seasons with South, he left the VFL to captain-coach Mortlake in the Hampden Football League.
