Bio
A former college basketballer who played for Seattle University, Matthew Owies originally joined Carlton as a Category B rookie in 2018 and successfully transitioned into a high-pressure small forward. Known for his accurate finishing and defensive intensity inside 50, he became a fixture in the Blues' attack, notably kicking 33 goals during the 2024 season as a valuable crumbing option alongside the club's key forwards. Despite this consistent form, Owies became a casualty of Carlton's list management strategy and was traded to West Coast at the end of 2024 in a three-way deal involving Hawthorn. He arrives at the Eagles offering immediate experience and goal sense to a developing forward line.
