Recruited from Claremont with pick 19 in the 2021 National Draft, Jacob van Rooyen arrived at Melbourne as a swingman prospect before settling permanently into the forward line. After spending his entire first season developing in the VFL, where he featured in Casey's 2022 premiership, he made his long-awaited debut in 2023 and immediately impacted the senior side with his contested marking and physical presence. A powerful key forward who attacks the ball aggressively in flight, van Rooyen often serves as the focal point of the Demons' attack, utilising his athleticism to crash packs and pinch-hit in the ruck when required. Now an established figure inside 50, he has become a reliable goalkicker and a structural cornerstone for the club as he matures into a senior leader.
