Bio
Recruited from Hamilton in country Victoria, Phillip Walsh made an immediate impression at Collingwood, playing 22 games in his debut 1983 season and earning the club's best first-year player award. Despite this promising start, he crossed to arch-rival Richmond the following year, spending three seasons at Punt Road before venturing north to join the Brisbane Bears as a member of their inaugural squad in 1987. A hard-running and courageous wingman known for his elite fitness standards and intensity, Walsh etched his name into history by winning the Bears' inaugural best and fairest award. He remained a key figure in Brisbane's midfield during their difficult formative years until his retirement in 1990, later transitioning into a highly respected tactical analyst and senior coach.
