Kane Johnston

Kane Johnston has emerged as a genuine mature-age prospect following a breakout 2026 WAFL campaign. After crossing to Perth from Peel Thunder, the 24-year-old became a key member of the senior side. His season was defined by a permanent positional switch, moving from defence to the forward line to form a damaging partnership inside 50. Johnston hit the scoreboard consistently, kicking 26 goals in 13 games for the finals-bound Demons. His standout form earned him an invitation to the WA state draft combine.

Renowned for his work rate and athleticism, Johnston has adapted seamlessly to his new role in attack. Recruiters have been drawn to his agility, his clean hands below his knees, and his reliable marking, though scouts note he still has room to improve his contested marking. Standing at 197cm, his ability to swing back into defence adds further appeal for clubs seeking ready-made depth. He is firmly on the radar for the national and rookie drafts, with Carlton and Geelong reportedly among the clubs showing keen interest.
