Bio
Jake Soutar has emerged as an AFL draft smokey following a standout season in the WAFL. Coming through the West Coast Junior Football Club before breaking into East Perth's senior side, the 20-year-old general defender enjoyed a breakthrough 2026 campaign. His rapid rise culminated in him winning the East Perth best and fairest award and earning an invitation to the West Australian state draft combine.
Scouts note Soutar as a strong intercept mark who reads the ball early in flight, allowing him to position himself well behind the play. He attacks the contest with tenacity, while his athleticism and speed make him a versatile option in defence. Initially attracting attention from North Melbourne ahead of the mid-season draft, his consistent finish to the year has cemented his standing as a mature-aged prospect. While not expected to be taken at the top of the order, he is firmly in the mix for clubs seeking a ready-made option late in the national draft or via the rookie draft.
