Bio
Reece Thompson emerged through the Sherwood Districts community club before entering the Brisbane Lions Academy pathway. The 192cm tall forward put together a strong 2026 campaign in the Talent League, demonstrating his scoring ability and establishing himself as a mobile leading target. His form earned him selection for the Allies at the National Championships, as well as a VFL debut for the Lions midway through the year. Thompson was subsequently invited to the state Draft Combine, where he highlighted his athleticism by finishing among the top testers in the running vertical jump.
A left-footer, Thompson is highly regarded for his strong overhead marking and drew attention for his spectacular high grabs during the season. Scouts have noted his aggressive approach when in range of goal and his reliable set-shot conversion, with his work rate catching the eye of clubs tracking him as a potential high half-forward or winger. While he has shown glimpses of his talent, reviewers note he is still working to put the whole package together consistently. Tied to Brisbane through its academy system, the Lions are expected to match any rival bids for him late in the national draft.
