Stats
Bio
A prolific goal-kicker from VFA powerhouse Coburg, Lance Collins joined Carlton when the Association suspended play during World War II. His VFL career was fragmented by army service in New Guinea, yet his return in 1945 proved the catalyst for one of the club's most memorable flags. After a protracted clearance dispute was resolved mid-season, Collins immediately electrified the Blues' forward line, booting eight goals in the Semi Final and four in the Preliminary Final to power the team into the decider. He lined up in the infamous 1945 "Bloodbath" Grand Final against South Melbourne but tore ankle tendons early in the match, restricting his involvement before being substituted. Collins finished the year as Carlton’s leading goalkicker and a premiership player, immediately leaving the league the following season to coach in Tasmania.
