Bio
South Australian royalty before he ever arrived in Victoria, Les "Bro" Dayman joined Footscray as a decorated mature-age recruit after more than a decade of dominance with Port Adelaide. Already a multiple SANFL best-and-fairest winner and premiership player, Dayman made an immediate impact at the Western Oval in 1932, topping the club's goalkicking in his debut season. A versatile key position talent who could command the goal square or pinch-hit in the ruck, he booted five goals against Fitzroy in just his second VFL appearance and averaged two goals a game throughout his brief tenure. While his time in the VFL was short—spanning just three seasons before a stint at Coburg and a return to Alberton—he proved his class transcended state borders. An inaugural inductee into the South Australian Football Hall of Fame, his distinguished footballing lineage continued well beyond his playing days as the grandfather of inaugural Adelaide Crows captain Chris McDermott.
