Bio
A diminutive but fearless rover, Ray "Hurricane" Huppatz arrived at Footscray in 1974 with a formidable reputation as a four-time best and fairest winner for Woodville in the SANFL. He made an immediate impact in the VFL, using his exceptional goal sense and wet-weather handling skills to become a dangerous attacking option for the Bulldogs. After four seasons at the Western Oval, Huppatz transferred to North Melbourne in 1978, where he reunited with former Woodville teammate Malcolm Blight and played a key role in the club's finals campaign. He booted two goals in the 1978 Grand Final loss to Hawthorn, but his time at Arden Street was subsequently derailed by a serious knee injury that wiped out his entire 1979 season. Huppatz eventually returned to South Australia to finish his career with Woodville and Port Adelaide, cementing his legacy as an inductee into the South Australian Football Hall of Fame.
