Bio
Recruited from Leopold, Arthur "Jimmy" Russell joined Melbourne during the VFL's inaugural season in 1897, though he did not feature in the club's historic opening round side. Operating primarily as a forward, he demonstrated a capability to find the goals during the low-scoring foundation era, averaging nearly a goal a game across his short tenure. Despite this promising strike rate, Russell remained on the fringe of selection, managing only a handful of senior appearances across the 1897 and 1898 seasons before drifting out of the league.
