Bio
Recruited from Peel Thunder with pick 25 in the 2009 National Draft, Aaron Black initially appeared destined for a long career as a key forward for North Melbourne. He enjoyed a breakout season in 2013, booting 33 goals and showcasing his athleticism and strong hands as a mobile marking target alongside Drew Petrie. However, a combination of injury interruptions and the rapid emergence of Ben Brown saw him fall out of favour at Arden Street, leading to a trade to Geelong ahead of the 2017 season in exchange for pick 92. While he added valuable depth to the Cats' list, he struggled to cement a regular spot in the senior side, eventually reinventing himself as an intercepting defender in his final AFL season. Following his delisting in 2018, Black remained at Kardinia Park to captain Geelong's VFL team, where he cemented his standing as a premier state-league player by tying for the J.J. Liston Trophy in 2021.
