Recruited from Port Adelaide in the SANFL, Aaron Fiora entered the AFL carrying the heavy expectation of being the third overall selection in the 1999 National Draft. This high billing immediately placed him under the microscope, particularly as he was taken just one pick ahead of future Fremantle legend Matthew Pavlich—a comparison that followed him throughout his time at Punt Road. A smooth-moving left-footer with genuine pace and elite delivery, Fiora was utilized primarily as an outside midfielder and wingman. While he frequently displayed the silky skills that attracted recruiters, he often struggled to find the consistency and contested hardness required to dominate games, leaving many fans frustrated by the gap between his talent and his output.

Seeking a fresh start after the 2004 season, Fiora was moved to St Kilda in a complex three-way trade that saw ruckman Troy Simmonds head to Richmond and Heath Black return to Fremantle. His early tenure at Moorabbin saw him drift in and out of the senior side, but he enjoyed a career-best resurgence under Ross Lyon in 2007. Embracing a disciplined role that capitalised on his running power, he played every game that season and appeared to have finally cemented his place in the best 22. However, the revival was short-lived; he fell out of favour the following year and was delisted at the end of 2008, ending his career as a serviceable utility who couldn't quite reach the lofty heights expected of a top-three draft pick.
