Bio
Recruited as a mature-age prospect from Ainslie in the NEAFL, Aaron vandenBerg joined Melbourne via the 2015 Rookie Draft and immediately made his presence felt with his physical aggression and appetite for the contest. A big-bodied midfielder who often rotated forward to apply elite defensive pressure, vandenBerg was fast-tracked into the leadership group but saw his momentum stalled by chronic heel injuries that sidelined him for long periods, particularly during the 2017 and 2018 seasons. He famously overcame these setbacks to feature in the Demons' 2018 finals campaign, providing a hard edge to the engine room, but struggled to break back into the senior side during the club's 2021 premiership year. He parted ways with Melbourne following the 2021 season, leaving a legacy as a hardened competitor whose durability issues unfortunately curtailed his influence.
