Bio
Drafted by Port Adelaide with pick 36 in the 2010 National Draft, Aaron Young was a versatile forward and midfielder who became a valuable contributor during the Power’s resurgence under Ken Hinkley. Recruited from the Eastern Ranges, he initially struggled to cement a full-time position in the starting lineup, frequently donning the green vest as the designated substitute—a role that earned him a reputation as an impact player but limited his match fitness. His career-best form arrived in 2016 when he played 21 games and booted 37 goals, stepping up as a dynamic scoring threat. However, consistent senior opportunities proved elusive in a talented Port forward line, and he was often squeezed out of the best 22.
Seeking more regular game time, Young was traded to the Gold Coast Suns ahead of the 2018 season. He made an immediate impact, playing every game in his first year at the club and adding experience to a developing list. While injury and form limited his output in 2019, he managed to reach exactly 100 AFL games before being delisted at the season's end. Far from finished with football, Young returned to South Australia to play for North Adelaide in the SANFL, where he cemented his status as a premier state-league footballer by winning the prestigious Magarey Medal in 2022.
