Bio
Recruited from Tatura in the Goulburn Valley, Adrian Battiston entered the VFL with a sterling reputation, having claimed the Morrish Medal as the best player in the Under-19s competition in 1981. He made an immediate impact at senior level for Melbourne, playing every game in his debut season to win the club's Best First Year Player award. A clever and prolific rover who knew how to find the football, Battiston established himself as a key component of the Demons' midfield engine room, highlighted by his 1985 campaign where he finished as the team's leading possession winner.
Despite his individual consistency, Battiston's time at Melbourne ended on a sour note; he played the first 14 games of the historic 1987 season before missing the club's famous finals charge. He subsequently transferred to the Sydney Swans in 1988 for a significant transfer fee, but struggled to replicate his earlier form interstate, managing just nine games across two seasons. Battiston eventually moved to South Australia, where he finished his playing days with a solid stint at Glenelg before transitioning into a successful off-field career as a football administrator and list manager.
