Ahmed Saad emerged as a prolific goalkicker in the VFL with the Northern Bullants, prompting St Kilda to select the mature-age recruit in the 2012 Rookie Draft. A livewire small forward, Saad quickly established himself in the Saints' lineup with his defensive pressure, rapid acceleration, and innate goal sense, becoming a regular contributor in the post-Stephen Milne era. However, his career momentum was halted abruptly in 2013 when he tested positive for a banned substance found in a pre-workout energy drink, resulting in an 18-month suspension. St Kilda stood by him during the exile, re-drafting him as a rookie for the 2015 season, but he found it difficult to consistently break back into the senior side and was delisted at the end of the year before returning to local football.
