Bio
Recruited from the Seddon Football Club in the local western suburbs leagues, Alan Clough was a tall utility who arrived at the Western Oval during a golden era for the club, debuting in 1955 just after Footscray's maiden premiership triumph. Standing 189cm, Clough provided a significant physical asset as a follower or key position player, though cracking the lineup of the reigning premiers proved a difficult task that limited him to 17 senior games over three seasons. While his time at the top level was brief, his legacy in the western suburbs was immense; he returned to Seddon to become a captain-coach and club icon, served on the Bulldogs' committee, and later carved out a distinguished 26-year career as an umpire in the WRFL, eventually earning an OAM for his lifelong service to Australian football and the community.
