Recruited from the Port Adelaide Magpies with the third selection in the 2000 National Draft, Alan Didak established himself as one of the most naturally gifted players of his generation. Possessing a lethal left boot and a signature 'shimmy' that allowed him to evade traffic with ease, he initially made his mark as a creative small forward before transitioning into a high-impact role rotating through the midfield. His ability to set up play and kick difficult goals from the boundary made him a unique offensive weapon for the Magpies throughout the 2000s.

While his career faced significant uncertainty following off-field indiscretions in 2007, Didak responded to the club's ultimatum with the best football of his life. He became a dual All-Australian and claimed the 2006 Copeland Trophy, eventually cementing his legacy as a key architect of Collingwood's 2010 premiership side. Although soft tissue injuries limited his output in his final seasons, he retired in 2013 as a life member and a genuine cult figure among the Collingwood faithful.
