Bio
Recruited from Warragul in Gippsland, Alan Fields began his VFL career as a capable forward, kicking 18 goals across his first two seasons with Fitzroy. Like many of his generation, his momentum was halted by the Second World War, during which he served overseas with the 2nd/7th Infantry Battalion. Fields returned to Brunswick Street midway through 1944, reinventing himself as a reliable defender just in time to play a vital role in the Gorillas' famous premiership victory that September. He remained a steady fixture in the backline for the post-war years, providing experienced cover in defence until his retirement in 1947.
