Stats
Bio
Recruited from local side North Carlton, Alan Fitcher established himself as a durable ruckman for Fitzroy across eight seasons in the VFL. While standing just 183cm, he relied on competitiveness to hold his own in ruck duels and became a staple of the Maroons' lineup during their finals campaigns of the early 1930s. He departed the League in 1937 to become captain-coach of Brighton in the VFA, where he made an immediate impact by guiding the team to the 1938 Grand Final against Brunswick. Fitcher later concluded his playing days at Camberwell before carving out a long-term post-football legacy as a well-known journalist for The Sporting Globe following his service in the Second World War.
