Teams

Recruited from Stratford in Gippsland, Alan Hammond was a versatile follower and forward who faced the difficult task of breaking into a formidable Collingwood lineup in the early 1930s. Standing 184cm, he offered a strong physical presence and the capacity to rotate through the ruck or play as a marking target in attack. Despite his utility value, he found opportunities scarce in a squad that remained a premiership contender following the famous "Machine" era, managing just six senior games over two seasons. With his path to regular selection blocked by established stars, he transferred to Essendon in 1934 but failed to add to his VFL game tally, eventually fading from the league level after a stint in the Bombers' seconds.
