Bio
A second-generation Tiger, Alan Hayes was the son of 1920s Richmond wingman Doug Hayes and arrived at Punt Road via the Hampton Rovers. A stocky utility who operated primarily across the centre line or as a ruck-rover, he claimed the club's reserves Best and Fairest in 1960 before breaking into the senior side as a regular contributor in 1961. Unable to cement a permanent spot the following season, he crossed the border to the SANFL and played over 50 games for Central District. Hayes later returned to Victoria and carved out a significant legacy in the Mornington Peninsula leagues, captain-coaching Hastings to multiple premierships in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
