Bio
A pioneering recruit from Queensland, Hunter was plucked from the Western Districts club in Brisbane after booting six goals in a representative match against the Footscray Under-19s. His transition to the VFL was stalled by a twelve-month ban on interstate transfers, forcing him to bide his time in the reserves before making his senior debut in 1964. Standing 185cm but lightly framed, he operated primarily as a skilful centreman and forward who relied on ball use rather than physical presence. Unable to cement a regular position in a team dominated by club legends, he left the Bulldogs at just 23 years of age to captain-coach West Broken Hill, acknowledging he lacked the physical strength required for long-term VFL football.
