Stats
Bio
A prolific country full forward, Alan Jewell arrived at Hawthorn in 1955 with a glowing reputation after booting a massive 102 goals in a single season for Mansfield. Having starred in back-to-back premierships in the Waranga North East Football Association, the spearhead showed promise in pre-season practice matches but struggled to translate his dominance to the elite level. He managed just two senior appearances for the Mayblooms without hitting the scoreboard, finding the VFL defenders far less accommodating than their country counterparts. Jewell "pulled the pin" at the end of the season to return to Mansfield, later making a brief cameo with Brighton in the VFA where he recaptured some scoring form.
