Bio
Born in Derry, Ireland, Alan McCrory was a rare international-born talent who initially broke into the league with Richmond via Carnegie. Struggling to command a regular spot in the Tigers' starting 18, he revitalised his prospects in the VFA with Oakleigh, where he proved himself a prolific forward by booting 53 goals in the 1940 season. His Association form earned him a reprieve at VFL level with South Melbourne, who required experienced bodies to cover the exodus of talent during the war years. McCrory played primarily as a forward target for the Bloods across two fragmented seasons before his career was brought to a close by service with the RAAF.
