Bio
Recruited from the Commonwealth Bank amateur side, Alan McPherson was a high-marking forward who showed glimpses of talent during a brief VFL stint with South Melbourne. Although he managed a respectable return of 12 goals across his eight senior games at the Lake Oval, he was unable to cement a permanent position in the side and transferred to the VFA in 1955. It was at Williamstown where he truly flourished, evolving into a dominant key forward and a dual premiership player. McPherson etched his name into Seagulls folklore with a best-on-ground performance in the 1956 Grand Final, where he pulled down eight spectacular marks and booted six goals to sink Port Melbourne. He remained a potent scoring threat throughout his time in the association, topping Williamstown's goalkicking in 1957 before finishing his career as a highly decorated VFA star.
