Teams

Recruited from Keilor, Alan Noonan developed into the focal point of the Essendon attack during a largely unsuccessful period for the club in the late 1960s and 1970s. A classic key forward with strong hands and a reliable set shot, Noonan shouldered the scoring burden with impressive consistency, topping the Bombers' goalkicking table seven times between 1968 and 1975. His standing at Windy Hill was solidified when he was appointed captain for the 1976 season, though he held the role for just one year as the club struggled for form on the field.

Following the 1976 season, Noonan was cleared to Richmond, ending an eleven-year association with the Dons as they looked to regenerate their list. His time at Punt Road was short-lived, yielding just three senior appearances in 1977 before his VFL career concluded. While team success largely eluded him, Noonan's individual record remains significant; he left the game as one of Essendon's most prolific goalkickers, providing a rare constant in the forward line during a decade of transition.
