Bio
Born into a notable footballing family, Alan Rayson was the son of former Geelong star Arthur Rayson and the older brother of future Coleman Medallist Noel Rayson. Although he hailed from the Pivot City, he made his senior debut as a teenager for Carlton in 1943, making two appearances before his career was halted by service with the RAAF during World War II. Upon his return to civilian life, Rayson transferred to Geelong, following in his father’s footsteps to don the hoops for the 1946 and 1947 seasons. A lightly built rover and forward pocket who knew where the goals were, he played 18 games for the Cats before departing the VFL scene, serving as the bridge between his father’s era and his brother’s goalkicking heroics of the 1950s.
