Teams

Recruited from the Melbourne High School Old Boys in the VAFA, Alan Squire arrived at the Junction Oval in 1948 and immediately established himself as a versatile key position prospect. Standing at 188cm, a significant height for the era, he was capable of holding down a key defensive post or battling in the ruck. His ability to adapt to the team's needs made him a fixture in the lineup during a lean competitive period for the Saints.

Squire's individual quality was recognised well beyond St Kilda, culminating in his selection to represent Victoria in 1951—a prestigious honour that highlighted his standing among the competition's elite defenders. He remained a loyal servant to the club until 1954, notching up over a century of games in the red, white and black. After concluding his VFL career, he took his experience to the local leagues, signing on as captain-coach for Boronia.
