Bio
Born into a devout family in Armadale and educated at Geelong College, Alan Tait followed the traditional scholar’s pathway to the VFL, joining the University side while pursuing his tertiary studies. His brief two-game career in 1911 was emblematic of the "Students" era, where academic and professional aspirations often took precedence over sustained football achievement. While his time in the black V was fleeting, Tait’s true legacy was forged on the battlefields of France rather than the ovals of Melbourne. After travelling to Edinburgh for further education, he enlisted with the Royal Scots during World War I and was awarded the Military Cross for conspicuous gallantry, eventually returning to Australia to serve as a long-standing Vice-Principal at his alma mater, Geelong College.
