Bio
Recruited from West Footscray YCW, Alan Trusler was a handy small forward who showed promise during a brief but memorable stint at the Western Oval. Standing just 175cm, he possessed sharp goal sense, booting 22 majors in his 16 senior appearances between 1953 and 1955. However, his career is defined by a heartbreaking "what if" moment; after playing seven games during the club’s historic 1954 campaign, he made the fateful decision to rule himself unavailable for the Grand Final to serve as best man at his brother’s wedding. Trusler listened on a portable radio outside the church as the Bulldogs claimed their maiden premiership, a choice he later admitted regretting. He eventually witnessed the club's second flag in person 62 years later, when a generous stranger gifted the lifelong supporter a ticket to the 2016 decider.
