Recruited from Avenel in country Victoria, Alan White arrived at Carlton with a reputation as a prolific sharpshooter after dominating the Waranga and North East Football Association. He caught the eye of VFL recruiters during a stunning 1957 season where he booted 74 goals for his local club, a performance that earned him a senior debut for the Blues late that same year. Standing 180cm, White was a medium-sized forward who knew how to find the goals, averaging exactly one major per game across his three seasons at Princes Park. Despite his scoring ability, he was unable to cement a long-term position in the senior side and eventually departed the VFL to captain-coach the Mildura Imperials in the Sunraysia league.
