Bio
Hailing from Burnie, Tasmania, Alastair Lynch established himself as a formidable key position talent at Fitzroy after being selected in the 1986 VFL Draft. While he would finish his career as a celebrated goalkicker, his tenure at the Roys was largely defined by his prowess as a key defender, where his intercept marking and physical capability earned him a club best and fairest at full-back in 1993. As Fitzroy faced financial ruin, Lynch became the subject of a landmark recruiting move, heading north to the Brisbane Bears ahead of the 1994 season on an unprecedented ten-year contract that signalled the expansion club's aggressive intent to build a premiership list.
Lynch's transition to Queensland was far from smooth, as a severe battle with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome restricted his output and threatened to end his career prematurely. Upon recovering, and following the merger that united his old and new clubs, he successfully reinvented himself as the Brisbane Lions' spearhead. No longer the dashing defender, he became a brute-force full-forward, relying on superior contested marking strength and an imposing physical presence to capitalise on the delivery from a star-studded midfield.
