Bio
Recruited from the country town of Numurkah, Albert "Alby" McDonald faced the difficult task of breaking into a Fitzroy side comfortably among the VFL's elite. Arriving at Brunswick Street in 1902, the sturdy recruit joined a Maroons squad that had recently contested three consecutive Grand Finals, making competition for senior selection ferocious. McDonald managed to force his way into the lineup for seven games across two seasons, booting a single goal, but found it impossible to permanently displace the club’s premiership veterans. His brief tenure at the top level ended after the 1903 season, a depth player squeezed out during a golden era for the club.
