Bio
Recruited from the Western Australian goldfields via South Fremantle, Albert "Nails" Western was a solidly built utility who arrived at Punt Road with a formidable reputation. A premiership player and centurion in the WAFL, he brought experience and a hardened frame to the Tigers' lineup for the 1952 season. Despite his pedigree as a star interstate recruit, Western found regular senior opportunities scarce in Victoria, managing just four senior appearances while dominating in the reserves with 22 goals in 12 games. He departed after a single season to take up a captain-coach role with Narrandera, ultimately leaving a legacy as a Western Australian football great rather than a VFL regular.
