Stats
Bio
A diminutive rover recruited from local side East Geelong, Alby Bendle was a mature-age debutant who finally earned his VFL opportunity at 28 years of age. Standing at just 166cm, he was one of the shortest players in the competition, relying on his nippiness and crumbing ability to impact contests at ground level against far larger opponents. He managed to hold his spot for 13 games during the 1922 season, serving primarily as a follower and forward pocket for the Pivotonians. Despite a solid run of matches in his solitary year of senior football, his VFL career concluded at the end of the season, leaving him as a notable example of a local stalwart who briefly stepped up to the highest level.
