Bio
Recruited from the Leopold Football Club in the metropolitan amateurs, Alby Jacobsen was a follower who spent much of his early career battling for senior selection at South Melbourne. Despite struggling to break into the Bloods' starting eighteen—managing just four games across his first three seasons—he proved his quality at the lower level by winning the 1926 Gardiner Medal as the best player in the reserves. He finally enjoyed a sustained run in the seniors in 1928 but left the VFL shortly after to play for Brunswick in the VFA. After a few seasons in the Association, Jacobsen made a brief return to the top flight with Essendon in 1933, adding seven games to his tally before finishing his career with Sunshine.
