Bio
A local product from Essendon High School, Alby Murdoch was a talented wingman who bypassed North Melbourne's recruiting zone to play for the Bombers. After winning the Essendon District Football League Best and Fairest with the Lincoln Stars, he broke into the VFL side in 1957 and established himself as a regular fixture on the wing by the following season. He played in the 1959 Grand Final loss to Melbourne but is perhaps best remembered for the misfortune that befell him during the club's premiership year of 1962. After appearing in the opening round, Murdoch suffered a severe knee injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the season, costing him a place in the flag-winning side. He eventually left the VFL to play for Stanhope and Brunswick before returning to the local area as a successful junior coach.
