Bio
Recruited from Leopold, Alec Gray was a steadfast full-back who anchored the Melbourne defence on either side of the Great War. He made an immediate impact upon his arrival in 1914, featuring in a semi-final the following year before his tenure was interrupted by the club's wartime recess. Gray resumed his place in the backline in 1919, enduring a torrid return season where the struggling side failed to register a win in any of the matches he played. He persevered as a regular defensive stopper until 1921, eventually departing the VFL to finish his career with Preston in the Association.
