Bio
Recruited from Warrnambool, Alec "Dookie" McKenzie was a powerful and versatile athlete who became a mainstay of the Geelong lineup during the early 1900s. Known for his rare combination of blistering pace and superb aerial ability, he was a true utility player who excelled equally across the half-back line, in the ruck, or as a marking forward. Although he played during a difficult era where the club often languished near the bottom of the ladder, McKenzie was a respected leader who stepped in to captain the side on occasion in 1906. His legacy is uniquely preserved through a significant archive of personal letters from legendary administrator Charles Brownlow, who provided the country recruit with extensive mentorship and medical advice throughout his time at Corio Bay.
