Family

Born in Queenstown, Tasmania, but raised in the Gippsland timber country, Alec Proudfoot was a hulking utility with strong bloodlines as the nephew of Collingwood premiership hero Bill Proudfoot. Standing 188cm and weighing 90kg—a massive frame for the 1920s—he was recruited to St Kilda from Erica but struggled to cement a position, playing just four games in two years. He revitalised his career in the VFA with Brunswick, displaying form strong enough to earn a second chance at VFL level with Melbourne in 1929. Despite his size and mature-age experience, he managed only one senior appearance for the Redlegs before returning to the Association to represent Brunswick and Coburg.
