Bio
Recruited from Albury in the Ovens & Murray league, Alex Clarke was a defender who found it difficult to command a regular place in the North Melbourne side during the early 1930s. Standing 180cm, he possessed the height to play key defensive posts or off a half-back flank, yet he spent his first two seasons on the fringe of selection, managing just five senior appearances between 1930 and 1931. After a year out of the VFL system in 1932, Clarke returned to Arden Street for his most consistent campaign in 1933, stringing together 10 games as the Shinboners battled through a difficult season. He departed the club at the end of that year and was invited to train with Melbourne during the 1934 pre-season as a potential defensive recruit, but was ultimately cut from the Demons' list before the opening round.
