Bio
Arriving at Fitzroy from Albion United, Alex Davidson joined the club during the pivotal transition from the VFA to the newly formed Victorian Football League. After featuring seven times in the Maroons' final VFA campaign of 1896, he was made to wait until the latter stages of the inaugural 1897 season to earn his senior league debut. Davidson found it difficult to cement a regular position in a powerhouse Fitzroy lineup destined for early success, managing just four VFL appearances across two seasons without troubling the scorers. Realising his opportunities were limited in a side marching toward a premiership, he requested a clearance to North Melbourne early in 1898, continuing his career in the Association while his former teammates went on to claim the flag later that year.
