Bio
A talented dual-sport athlete from South Australia, Alex Dodson was rated as the premier ruck of his class but slid to pick 53 in the 2024 National Draft largely due to speculation regarding his basketball ambitions. Having captained his state and represented Australia on the hardwood, Dodson ultimately turned down US college offers to pursue football with Sturt in the SANFL. He arrived at Moorabbin as a modern, athletic 203cm ruckman whose basketball background provided the foundation for his clean hands, vertical leap, and rare agility for a player of his size. Capable of finding the footy like a midfielder, he dominated at VFL level with Sandringham—highlighted by a massive 35-disposal performance—before earning a senior debut against Essendon late in the 2025 season. Viewed as a high-ceiling prospect with "steal of the draft" potential, Dodson enters his second year pushing for greater opportunities alongside the Saints' established talls.
