Teams

Born on Christmas Day, Alex Fraser was a highly rated country recruit who arrived at St Kilda with a formidable reputation in the Ovens and Murray League. Having originally cut his teeth at Albury Rovers alongside future legend Haydn Bunton Sr, Fraser established himself as a star centreman for Wangaratta, performing well enough in inter-league representative matches to earn a VFL opportunity. He broke into the Saints' senior lineup midway through the 1931 season, making his debut against Collingwood and playing three consecutive games as a rover and ball-winner. Despite his ability to find the football, his time at the Junction Oval was fleeting, and he was unable to secure a permanent spot in the side during a difficult era for the club. Fraser eventually returned to the bush where he cemented his status as a local sporting icon, serving Wangaratta for decades and ultimately being named in the club's Team of the Century.
