Bio
A product of Casterton in Victoria’s western districts, Alex Grant arrived in the VFL via the well-trodden scholar’s pathway of Hamilton College and Ormond College. While studying medicine at Melbourne University, the 174cm student broke into the senior side for a solitary game in 1909 and added just one more appearance in 1910. As was common for the "Students" of that era, his football ambitions were secondary to his professional studies, and he retired from the VFL immediately upon graduating. Grant subsequently relocated to New Zealand where he established a distinguished legacy far removed from the football field, becoming a renowned surgeon (CBE), a military captain in WWI, and a long-serving President of the Auckland Racing Club.
