Bio
A gifted all-round sportsman and scholar from Gippsland, Alexander Robertson arrived at the VFL via the elite academic pathway of Ormond College. Born in Bundalaguah, he was a dux at secondary school before excelling in rowing, cricket, and athletics at the University of Melbourne while studying mining engineering. He broke into the University senior side in 1909, establishing himself as a half-back flanker who could hold his own in the defensive half. His short ten-game career was best remembered for his final appearance, where he was named among the best players in a gritty draw played in a quagmire against Fitzroy at Brunswick Street. Robertson eventually moved to Western Australia to work as a geologist before enlisting in the AIF, tragically becoming one of the many VFL footballers killed in action during the Gallipoli campaign in 1915.
