Bio
Recruited as a mature-age defender from SANFL powerhouse Norwood, Alexis Georgiou was brought to Melbourne by incoming coach Paul Roos to provide immediate stability to a besieged backline. Fresh off back-to-back premierships with the Redlegs, Georgiou was selected in the 2014 Rookie Draft and immediately thrust into the senior side for Round 1 to cover for an injured Colin Garland. He played the first seven games of the season, earning respect for his disciplined, close-checking defensive work and ability to punch above his weight despite an unconventional, slightly awkward running style that often belied his effectiveness. Once the Demons' senior defensive stocks replenished, Georgiou was squeezed out of the side and spent the remainder of the year in the VFL before being delisted. He subsequently returned to Norwood, where he cemented his status as a club legend, serving as captain and winning a Best and Fairest.
